Parents are required to attend and supervise their children. The club cannot accept responsibility for children left at the venue without parental supervision. Children should bring hats to wear when not competing, sunscreen and a drink bottle. Shoes must be worn by athletes at all times.
We encourage parents to be voluntary helpers in activities ranging from measuring jumps, judging track events, starting or timing races or recording results of events.
For rules of athletic competition, see your Tasmanian Little Athletics Association manual or talk to one of our Education Officers.
Fees for the 2009/10 are as follows: 1 child - $85, 2 children - $140, 3 children - $180 and 4 children - $200. New members can try out Little Aths for two meetings, but are required to register when they attend for their third meeting.
Club colours are a white top with navy blue shorts. Athletes should place the name and age tag which they receive at registration in the middle of their top, with the TLAA badge on the right hand side and the Queenborough club badge on the left hand side. Current season's award badges should be placed on the back of the athlete's shirt.
Apart from the club shirt, most athletic equipment is supplied by Queenborough. Sports shoes used at school are generally suitable.
For 30 years, the TLAA - Tasmanian Little Athletics Association - has encouraged children to compete and strive for their personal best at running, jumping, walking or throwing events. Queenborough is based in Sandy Bay on a lovely grassy track at Sandown Park lined by trees.
Age categories range from 5 to 14 years, so U15 is the end of a Little Athletics career but for many, the beginning of club athletics. The season runs from October to March with State titles at the end of the season.
You don't have to be the fastest runner or the best jumper, because every individual has a goal. Times and distances are properly measured and rules fairly applied. There's also coaching and help available for most events.
Our competition venue is Sandown Park in Lower Sandy Bay - take the turnoff to Nutgrove Beach.

The IAAF Competition Rules 2008 manual is also surprisingly readable. The latest edition has 243 pages all-up and is guaranteed to resolve those nagging questions about jumps, angles, high jump tie breakers, lane widths and more. You simply won't put it down. You can download it via the link above in pdf format (file size 1.3MB). Maybe a quicker read would be the TLAA rules of Competition.
